PROFILE

The Doctoral Program in Disaster Science (DIB) at Universitas Syiah Kuala is a multidisciplinary doctoral program established to meet the demand for human resources and experts in disaster management at a strategic level. Officially instituted under the Decree of the Rector of Universitas Syiah Kuala Number 1643/UN11/KPT/2025, the program is designed to comprehensively advance disaster science and research, covering areas such as risk assessment, disaster mitigation and risk reduction, preparedness, emergency response management, and post-disaster recovery and reconstruction. The DIB USK program is supported by faculty members and researchers possessing strong expertise and distinguished national and international academic reputations, including professors and associate professors from various disciplines relevant to disaster science. This diversity of expertise reinforces a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the complexities of disaster risk and fosters the creation of evidence-based innovations and solutions that support resilient and sustainable communities. DIB USK focuses on fostering high-impact research and producing graduates capable of contributing as academics, researchers, professionals, and leaders in disaster risk reduction and management at both national and global levels. The program’s excellence is bolstered by academic networks and international collaborations—including the involvement of overseas lecturers and academics—providing students with opportunities to engage with global perspectives, experiences, and advancements in disaster science. Collaboration with national and international stakeholders is integrated into educational and research activities, encouraging students to produce high-quality scholarly work for publication in reputable international journals. Through a combination of high-caliber faculty, international networks, multidisciplinary research, and direct engagement with diverse stakeholders, DIB USK aims to become a center for disaster science development that is excellent, innovative, collaborative, and globally competitive.
